Reduce plastic waste on Bonaire

Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB), Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association (BONHATA), and Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) have partnered to launch a new initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste on the island of Bonaire. The Bonaire Water Bottle project seeks to encourage residents and visitors to use refillable water bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles.

Bonaire is a small island located in the Caribbean Sea, known for its stunning natural beauty and thriving marine life. However, like many other tourist destinations, it has been facing a growing problem with plastic waste. The Bonaire Water Bottle project aims to address this issue by providing access to clean, safe drinking water and encouraging people to use refillable water bottles.

The project involves the installation of water refill stations at various locations across the island, including popular tourist spots, hotels, and public areas. These refill stations are equipped with state-of-the-art water filtration systems to ensure that the water is safe for drinking. In addition, the project will distribute reusable water bottles to local residents and visitors, encouraging them to use these bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles.

The Bonaire Water Bottle project is not only environmentally friendly, but it also has economic benefits for the island. By reducing the amount of plastic waste, Bonaire can maintain its pristine natural beauty, which is a major draw for tourists. Additionally, the project supports local businesses by promoting the use of reusable bottles, which can be sold at local shops and souvenir stores.

The launch of the Bonaire Water Bottle project is an important step towards a more sustainable future for the island. By working together, TCB, BONHATA, and WEB are setting an example for other tourist destinations around the world. It is a reminder that small actions can have a big impact, and that we all have a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.

We strongly encourage this great initiative so that in the future we can also benefit from the beauty of Bonaire. Want to read more about this campaign? Please click here.
